Days before departure, Crivitz Vietnam veteran Rick Chouinard was forced to miss the trip due to health conditions. Recently discovered blood clots on his lungs made air travel too dangerous. While Chouinard is not on the trip, something of importance to him is.
New plans were quickly made for 52 veterans and one Snoopy. Chouinard, who was a Navy mechanic in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971, received the plastic Snoopy one Christmas from his sister and it stayed with him throughout his duty in Vietnam. It's been with him wherever he's been to this day.

Snoopy Returns to Vietnam
Snoopy is now back in Vietnam for his second tour. This time standing proxy for Chouinard as the trip mascot. More importantly, he's a daily reminder of the brother the group had to leave behind in Wisconsin. Meanwhile, Chouinard remains optimistic from his home in Crivitz. “I've seen a lot of life, and one of the things I've learned is what will be will be, and if I'm supposed to go to Vietnam, I will get there somehow,” he recently told WBAY-TV.
