MADISON, WI (Wisconsin Radio Network) – You need to have a valid photo ID to vote in the upcoming election, and if you need one, the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles is here to help.
Patrick Fernan with the DMV says that process can be entirely free. “If somebody wants to get an ID and they want to use it for voting purposes, they check a box on the form and it is available for free to them.”
If you already have a driver’s license, you’re already covered. If you don’t, there are some documents you need to begin the process. “Proof of name and date of birth, which is often a birth certificate. Proof of Wisconsin residency, which is often a utility bill, a lease, or a paycheck with your address on it,” Fernan said.
A number of other IDs like military IDs are also valid.
