(WLUK) — Approximately 40 vehicles were involved in traffic incidents Tuesday as freezing rain and icy roads wreaked havoc on travel in Oconto County.
According to the sheriff’s office, the emergency dispatch center started receiving reports around noon of crashes, vehicles in the ditch or cars spinning out of control due to hazardous weather conditions.
Authorities say the weather event spanned from the town of Underhill to the town of Little River, quickly moving through the southern part of Oconto County. Additional staff members were called in to help deal with the increased number of 911 calls and crashes.
As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, the sheriff’s office had received 24 crash reports involving around 40 different vehicles. That included a multi-vehicle crash at the split of Highway 41 and 141 in the town of Abrams, which caused the highway to be shut down briefly. Luckily, no serious injuries have been reported.
