MADISON, WI (WTAQ) — Hikers and campers are getting good news from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
The DNR says state-owned campgrounds will begin reopening next week. Over 5,500 campgrounds will reopen on June 10th. Park System Spokesperson Missy Van Landuit says there are a few exceptions.
“What is still closed, however, is our group camps, indoor group camps, and our accessible cabins,” she told WTAQ.
There are changes to address with coronavirus protocols including in making reservations. Reservations are only being accepted by phone or online.
She says with the coronavirus pandemic still ongoing, campers should plan ahead.
“We’re asking folks to be as self sufficient as possible,” Van Landuit said. “Think ahead about bringing your own soap or disinfecting supplies, hand sanitizer, paper towels, things like that.”
Campgrounds will be open through the end of the season in October.
