MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – WLUK TV is reporting the man convicted of illegally possessing military-grade explosives after an explosion at his home was sentenced to two years in prison.
Victor Cota, 36, was also placed on extended supervision for four years, and probation for five years. Judge Robert Dewane also ordered Cota to pay restitution of $5,994.35 to Manitowoc County Emergency Management at the Jan. 3 hearing.
Cota was convicted of five charges, including recklessly endangering safety, and possessing explosives for an unlawful purpose.
According to the police report, crews responded to 938 S. 29th Street after reports of two explosions. ATF, FBI, a hazmat team and the state Dept. of Military Affairs responded. They found:
RDX, a military-grade explosive
PETN, a military and commercial explosive that requires a license to possess. Cota did not have such a license
Three different types of improvised explosive devices
Also found were nitroglycerine, nitromethane, and scientific glassware.
