GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Calling it a “better deal” for Wisconsin farmers, manufacturers, and businesses, Wisconsin Democratic US Senator Tammy Baldwin has voted for the United States Mexico Canada Trade Agreement.
“NAFTA, which I opposed, cost Wisconsin jobs,” Baldwin said on WTAQ’s ‘Morning News with Matt and Earl’. “Wisconsin farmers, Wisconsin manufacturers have a deal that will strengthen those very important sectors of our state economy.”
The deal replaces NAFTA.
Baldwin joined a bipartisan coalition of 89 senators in voting for the agreement, including her counterpart, Republican Senator Ron Johnson. She wasn’t originally in favor of the USMCA, but she says added enforcement provisions made her a yes vote.
“That includes provisions that will provide some relief for our daily farmers, who have lost a lot of their access to the Canadian and especially the Mexican markets,” said Baldwin.
The deal now heads to President Donald Trump’s desk. Replacing NAFTA has been one of President Trump’s biggest goals in office.
