NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Landing early Wednesday morning at Travis Air Force Base in northern California, Samuel Roth is excited to have his wife and daughters back in the U.S.
“There was a lot of apprehension and anxiety around can they can on the airplane and once we are confirmed to be able to get on the airplane, how are we going to get to the airport and we’ve crossed all those challenges,” said Roth, speaking with FOX 11 at the family’s Neenah home.
Roth’s wife, Daisy, and their daughters 5-year-old Abigail, and 10-month-old Adalynn were in Wuhan, China the past few weeks. They were there for the Chinese New Year Celebration.
The three are now staying at a hotel on the California military base. Roth says he’s been told they could be quarantined up to 14 days.
“I expect because they are coming from the epicenter of the outbreak that they would be there for the whole two weeks.”
He says it seems like they’ve been well taken care of so far.
“They brought diapers, there is baby food, baby wipes, and all these things are supplied in the hotel that is on the air force base.”
Roth hasn’t heard yet what kind of limits are on his family as far as where they can be in the hotel. His wife sent him a picture showing the evacuees gathered together, listening to someone from the CDC.
“It’s not that I want my family to be there for two weeks, but I want to fully comply with whatever precautions are necessary to ensure my family is well, but also that we’re not bringing the disease into the community.”
Roth says he’ll be in California ready to bring his family home once they’re cleared.
“At this point, just let them rest, make sure they’re well and we’ll be reunited soon enough.”
