HORTONVILLE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Area snowmobilers played softball…of sorts…at the Outagamie Conservation Club on Saturday.
An annual tournament sees people playing softball on their snowmobiles.
There is a traditional pitcher and batter. If the batter makes contact, they have to jump on their snowmobile to go around the bases.
Fielders must stay in contact with their snowmobile to touch a ball that is hit.
“The strategy is to try to get a hold of the ball and get it back into the infield,” said Jen Learman, one of the participants. “You have to stay in contact with your machine when you’re playing, so the best strategy is just to try to get a hold of that ball, not overthrow the ball, and not toss it around. You want to try to control the ball.”
Organizers say the event has been going on since the 1970s.
