BROWN COUNTY,WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – As the spring thaw begins in northeast Wisconsin, many communities are preparing for another season of flooding.
With water levels freezing off at very high levels late last fall, and now our snow pack melting away, there is a strong concern for where all of the water will go in the next few weeks, that has been frozen as snow and ice.
The concern was great enough that the city of Green Bay ordered 10,000 sand bags as a precautionary measure for the weeks ahead.
This unusual request has Brown County Public Works spending much of this week filling that order with their new sand bagging machine.
The county made the purchase last summer, specifically to help prepare for the flooding potential this spring.
County Public Works Director Paul Fontecchio says the Green Bay order will take about a week to fill and is the largest order to date.
The sandbagger has also been loaned out to Oconto County to help in their flood preparation.
