GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is encouraging students who leave campus for spring break not to return until further notice as a precaution against the new coronavirus.
For at least the week of March 23-28, UWGB classes at all campuses will be taught by what the university calls “alternative delivery methods.” Students should receive additional details from their instructors in the coming days. Students are advised to take instructional materials, computers, medications and other valuables home with them over spring break.
Those staying on campus for spring break will have accommodations, the university says. Students who need access to the internet and computer labs after spring break will be allowed on campus.
The university will make decisions on subsequent weeks’ schedules each Wednesday.
University-sponsored spring break trips for students and faculty have been canceled.
Meanwhile, campus events for March 14-22 have been canceled. The Kress Events Center will be closed to the public from March 14-29. For events at the Weidner Center, visit the website for updates.
The athletic department is also monitoring the situation, and remains in contact with the NIT, Horizon League and NCAA.
Further updates will be posted on the university’s coronavirus page and will be emailed to the campus community. The university has called a 4 p.m. news conference to discuss the measures.
Other colleges in the state, including St. Norbert and UW-Madison, have issued their own guidelines.
