GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — There are some positives coming out of the social distancing being practiced due to COVID-19 concerns: Green Bay had zero drunken driving arrests on St. Patrick’s Day.
“Hats off to Green Bay for doing that right,” said Chief Andrew Smith of the Green Bay Police Department.
Smith reports the department averages 12 drunken driving arrests on St. Patrick’s Day.
In an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19, Gov. Tony Evers ordered all bars and restaurants to be shut down to in-person business starting at 5 pm on St. Patrick’s Day.
Smith says officers were still out looking for drunken drivers.
“I think that is because people are staying home,” said Smith. “We had officers out looking for drunk drivers, but we couldn’t’ find any. The best we could do was a couple of narcotics arrests and a couple of warrant arrests.”
