GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Wisconsin Face Mask Warriors are helping sew face masks for health care workers and first responders.
The Brown County Zone 4 serves 12 counties in Northeast Wisconsin.
The efforts have led to nearly 500 masks being sent out to police, fire, EMS and health care workers who do not have personal protective equipment.
Area coordinator Liz Benecke tells FOX 11 that it started with a call for action on Facebook.
“It is pretty incredible and the number that we’ve been able to get out to this community is remarkable. These people are sewing 24-hours a day, seven days a week and the needs are starting to be met. We still have another 294 masks that we need to fill to get people off our critical list, our critical list are health care facilities that have contacted us and said they do not have any more facial PPE for their employees or residents of their facilities to utilize.”
The group is still looking for sewers or people who have sewing equipment they’re willing to lend. They also are collecting supplies, like 100% cotton fabric, elastic , thin gauge wire for nose pieces, bias tape and thread.
To volunteer or donate, you can contact the group on Facebook.
Benecke says she has orders for more than 100,000 face masks for the 12-county area. The group is less than 300 masks away from filling orders for frontline workers who say they don’t have any PPE equipment. Once those orders are filled, the group will move onto its endangered list which means those groups are likely run out of PPE within the next 72 hours.
