KEWAUNEE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Kewaunee County has yet to see a confirmed case of COVID-19, and they’re hoping to keep that number as low as possible. That’s why the county Public Health Department is issuing a travel advisory for permanent and non-permanent residents.
The advisory is asking non-permanent residents to avoid traveling to their seasonal homes in Kewaunee County.
“We have a lot of rental properties, cottages, cabins, and such that are along the lakeshore – and people have been heading up here to stay in those properties during the Safer At Home,” says Public Health Director Cindy Kinnard, “That’s not really the point of the Safer At Home. It’s to stay within your normal residence, just so that we don’t see more community spread within this area.”
For the permanent residents of the county, local grocery shopping is recommended. Medical appointments that may be outside the county clearly warrant the travel. But Kinnard hopes to see people to stay home when possible.
“Travel is not necessarily restricted, but we’re hoping to see less people coming up from Illinois or from winter homes down in Florida,” Kinnard tells WTAQ News, “We’re just trying to encourage people to stay within their own residence.”
Despite having no confirmed cases – the county still asks everyone to continue social distancing practices when out in public.
