GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Cellcom Green Bay Marathon announced a big change Tuesday. The annual springtime event is going virtual this year in response to COVID-19.
Organizers say safety was a big factor in the decision. They also said postponing it to a later date wouldn’t have been fair to athletes who have been training all year and Lambeau Field likely would not have been available at a later date due to football season.
The virtual race will allow runners to finish their training and the miles of their chosen event individually on race day, May 17th, or any day of their choosing.
Those who registered for marathon, half marathon, relay, 5K or kids’ run will be able to complete a virtual run, receive their bib, medal and t-shirt and carry out the miles safely on their own.
If you registered for one of the above events and you do not want to participate in the virtual run, you can defer your registration for 2021.
Registration for the virtual marathon, half marathon, relay, 5K or kids’ run is open until April 20th.
