GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — There are 12 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 Coronavirus in Brown County, and health officials say at least two of them may have been out in the community when they started showing symptoms.
The most recent patients are a 33 year old woman who had traveled within the country, along with a 24 year old man and a 49 year old woman who are believed to have picked up the virus in the community.
“It looks like case 11 and 12 were symptomatic but not necessarily self-isolating,” said Brown County Environmental Health Manager Ted Shove. “In terms of their specific habits as to what they were doing, that’s still be worked out.”
The next step is to perform contact tracing to see who they may have had contact with, and who might be at risk.
“The individuals that were potentially in contact, our team is in contact with those who are considered to be at medium or high risk,” said Shove.
Details such as exactly where the two patients went in the county cannot be released due to patient privacy laws.
Several people in the county have been hospitalized.
As for the number of patients who have recovered: that’s not clear. Shove says that while at least two cases in Brown County have had gradually decreasing symptoms, varying definitions on what constitutes a recovery have health officials reluctant to issue a number. The state of Wisconsin has not issued recovery data since the early weeks of the outbreak.
