APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A third case of COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus, has been confirmed in Appleton.
City officials say it is the first case in the city acquired by community spread. That means the patient did not have contact with any other known case.
City leaders say the presence of community spread reinforces the importance of Wisconsin’s “safer at home” order to slow the spread of the virus.
The first two Appleton residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered, the city says.
As of Thursday, the state Department of Health Services reported a total of 1,730 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Wisconsin. The state does not track how many people have recovered.
