GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – All kinds of small businesses are feeling the impact of shutdowns and social distancing – and with uncertainty around when everything will reopen – they need support from the community.
Many small businesses have closed their doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic – but they’re still able to offer some services. There are a number of ways that everyone can help out.
“Check it out to see if they’re offering any of those services online. Then definitely shop local and try to order online from that business,” says Susan Bach of the Better Business Bureau, “Buy a gift card to use for later. A lot of locations are actually offering discounts on their gift cards, so it’s actually a win-win for everybody.”
One of the most common industries still seeing a significant amount of traffic despite not being able to open their doors – restaurants, along with bars and other spots that serve food.
“Definitely patronize your favorite restaurant by getting a quick takeout order or asking for delivery. That’s another great way to support local businesses,” Bach tells WTAQ News, “A lot of trainers, gyms, and service providers are also offering virtual classes. Check out your favorite service provider to see if they’re offering any kind of virtual class.”
Most people will think of local restaurants and retailers when looking to support small businesses through difficult times. But contractors and freelancers are also trying to find ways to keep food on their tables.
“They might not be able to start that project now or give you that service now – but if you reach out to them now and commit to a future event, that is also a great way to help that small business keep the cash flow coming,” Bach says.
There are also ways to support your favorite local spots without spending a dime.
“Go to social media and see if you can write an online review for your favorite business. Like and share all of their social media – or maybe just get your kids to make a big sign for them and tell them you appreciate them and that as soon as all of this is over, you’ll be back,” Bach says.
