GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Green Bay man has been charged in connection with a bar stabbing on Halloween night.
Robert Goodletson, 47, faces one count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide with the use of a dangerous weapon. He made his initial court appearance Tuesday and is being held at the Brown County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond.
Police say the stabbing happened around 8:45 p.m. Oct. 31 inside a bar in the 1200 block of State Street in Green Bay.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim, identified as an adult male, went to the bar with his friend, an adult female. The victim said Goodletson, his friend’s ex-husband, was at the same bar and got angry when he saw the two of them together.
“Robert began yelling at me across the bar. I walked over to Robert and he grabbed on to me. I do not remember how I got away but I walked outside and was told I was bleeding. Police then showed up,” the complaint states, quoting the victim.
The victim suffered “several deep stab wounds to his left upper side and a large laceration to the left side of his head.”
When police arrived on scene, Goodletson was located behind the bar and arrested. Authorities found a black knife in a plastic sheath on his belt and blood on his hands.
Robert told us that the male was “sleeping” with his wife, and they weren’t even divorced. He also made a comment about him being a concealed weapon permit holder and that we were lucky that he didn’t kill the guy. As he was explaining he reasons behind the stabbing, he also claimed he was acting in self-defense.
The complaint describes surveillance footage that captured the stabbing.
“As Robert was standing up, he makes a drawing motion with his left hand and appears to be holding the knife pointing down. As he steps towards BMD, he transfers the knife to his right hand. Robert reaches out with his left hand and pushes BMD back against the wall, with his hand near BMD ‘s throat. His right arm comes back as if he is cocking his arm and then he and BMD begin to struggle back and forth,” the complaint says.
Goodletson returns to court Nov. 18.
