TOWN OF ELLINGTON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Some 4th-grade students at a Hortonville area school made a difference for one of their teachers Sunday afternoon.
They were part of Sarah Breit’s class.
They rode with their parents past her house to wish her a happy birthday, in a parade.
They had signs, waved to her, and parents driving the vehicles honked their horns.
Breit’s birthday is next week, but organizers of the parade say that the extension of Gov. Evers’ “Safer at Home” order may have contributed to the parade being held now.
They also tell FOX 11 they wanted to reverse a recent trend of teachers having drive-by parades for their students.
“In some of the districts where you might see the teachers coming to the kids, we thought it might be fun for the kids to come to the teacher,” said Carrie Powell, a parent and one of the organizers.
Breit just happened to be outside when it happened.
“We were playing outside, and all of a sudden, the cars started coming, and I started to see my students, and then all the tears started to flow.”
One of the kids said that the students hadn’t seen her in-person in about two months.
About 18 4th-graders participated in the parade with their parents.
