MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ) – Protesters gathered at the Wisconsin Capitol on Sunday to urge Governor Tony Evers to lift his extended stay home order. More protests are planned.
One NE Wisconsin lawmaker says the Governor could have made this a little easier.
Last week Governor Evers extended his stay-at-home order until after Memorial Day to help stem the spread of the coronavirus.
“I’m concerned that the Governor isn’t really laying out the metrics that were used to make these decisions.”
Marinette Assemblyman John Nygren says with that…people, already nervous about losing their jobs, are even more frustrated.
“Businesses are obviously struggling, families having a hard time putting food on the table.”
Nygren says the Governor needs to bring in the Republican leadership to the planing discussion, and listen to the rural and business perspective.
“Unfortunately, just like the public, we’re on the outside looking in…trying to understand why those decisions are being made.”
That could help assure more public acceptance of the initiatives to fight COVID 19, without sinking the state’s economy.
