SUAMICO, WI (WTAQ) – Uncharted territory.
“Obviously, it’s a different time and some strange events over the past month of so.”
That’s how Bay Port High School Principal Mike Frieder, and most educators, describes the extended closure of Wisconsin schools in light of the COVID 19 pandemic.
He feels bad for students, staff and parents in the Howard-Suamico School District.
“Been a difficult time for our kids, but they’re resilient. And I feel bad for our parents too, and our community, but we’ll figure it out and we’ll get through it.”
Not that he is totally surprised, but Frieder also says the response to online instruction has been very good.
“We were expecting them to do about 3 or 4 hours of work at home and some of them are doing a lot more than that.”
And he says the senior class at Bay Port, denied a prom, a last day of school, and a chance to get their diplomas with their friends is still planning to do something to mark their educational milestone.
