DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) — The Mayor of De Pere is looking back on a long tenure in office.
Mike Walsh has served as De Pere’s mayor since first being elected in 1996, and this week he will leave that office after 24 years. He told WTAQ’s ‘The Morning News with Matt and Earl’ that he’s proud of what was accomplished during his tenure.
“The building of the Claude Allouez Bridge, the Riverwalk, the communications established between St. Norbert and the city,” listed Walsh.
His list of regrets are few, noting only that the southern bridge was not built during his tenure despite starting the footwork on its development his first year as mayor.
Walsh says he plans to focus on travel and spending time with his grandchildren, but adds there’s a lot he’s going to miss.
“The people, my staff, the administrators that I’ve had, they’ve all been just terrific,” “I can’t say there’s been a dissapointment.”
Councilman James Boyd will take the reins from Walsh on Tuesday after running unopposed for the seat.
