GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Brown County has seen the largest day-to-day increase in the number of COVID-19 Coronavirus cases confirmed in the county.
On Wednesday, county health officials confirmed 93 new cases for a total of 416 in Brown County and the Oneida Nation.
Brown County Health Department Spokesperson Claire Paprocki says the jump is in part due to increased testing done on employees at JBS Meatpacking, American Food Group, and Salm Partners, three food processors that have seen a large spike in cases over the past several weeks.
Officials linked 147 of the county’s cases to JBS’s Lime Kiln Road facility, 38 were linked to American Food Group, and 19 to Salm Partners in Denmark. Federal officials from the Centers for Disease Control, US Department of Agriculture, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration are on hand at those facilities this week. There are no current plans to close those facilities. Food remains safe to eat.
Details were also released on the second death in the county, that of a 56 year old woman who lived in the 54311 Zip Code.
The number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients in the county dropped to 17 on Wednesday. There are 34 patients out-of-isolation with diminishing symptoms.
