MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Marinette police officer is being recognized for his heroic efforts during the tragic drowning incident of 13-year-old Jakob Bowerman.
Officer Jagielski was presented with the Valor Award Wednesday.
Police wrote, “Jagelski’s quick response, courage, and selfless efforts exemplify the highest standards of service and dedication to the safety of our community. His actions that day reflect the true meaning of bravery, compassion and public service.”
Bowerman died Aug. 23, three days after his body was pulled from the mouth of the Menominee River.
Tylor Birch, 21, and a 16-year-old boy are charged in connection with Bowerman’s death.
According to the criminal complaint, Birch and the 16-year-old threw Bowerman into the water after Bowerman expressed he did not want to go in.
