OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The construction of a new Oshkosh landmark is officially complete.
City leaders held a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday to celebrate the William Waters Plaza Gazebo, located at 103 Washington Avenue. Final plantings are scheduled to wrap up soon, at which point the site will be fully ready for enjoyment and use by the community.
This project, which began back in 2014, is part of the city’s work to enhance community spaces around Oshkosh. It was made possible with the help of $250,000 private donation.
“Each one of these columns here, the sections, they took like 28 days to cure, so this thing has like a 200+ year life capacity, which is great. It’s built very, very well,” said Brandon Nielsen with the City of Oshkosh Planning Department. “This is a great community collaboration. With a collaboration like this, we were able to achieve more than we would have been able to do alone.”
The gazebo is named in honor of William Waters, the architect who designed the nearby Oshkosh Public Library back in 1898.
