GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — There are now 624 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 Coronavirus in Brown County. County officials announced 107 new cases Friday–the second day in a row with a triple-digit jump in cases.
Those cases are driven by more aggressive testing at several meat-packing plants linked to a spike in cases. Cases have been linked to JBS Beef Company, American Food Group, and Salm Partners in Denmark.
“At this time, Salm Partners, American Food Group, and JBS facilities are not a direct threat to the general public,” Health Department Spokesperson Claire Paprocki told reporters. “The threat is spreading out in the community as well.”
Paprocki says the number of symptomatic employees being turned away from their shifts at those plants has dropped from earlier this week. Testing is being done at JBS Beef Company on Lime Kiln Road before employees come into work.
Officials are encouraging all residents to avoid gatherings and stay six feet away from people in public at all time.
Officials say 23 people have been hospitalized, and 35 are out of isolation and recovering.
