GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The number of COVID-19 Coronavirus cases in Brown County has now passed the 1,000 mark.
Officials Thursday said that there are 1,057 cases in Brown County and the Oneida Nation.
A new company testing site has opened at the Resch center specifically for essential employees in several industries.
“So it would be for employees who work at, say, a long-term care facility, housing facilities, healthcare facilities, and other non-healthcare workplaces,” Health Department Spokesperson Claire Paprocki told reporters Thursday.
Aggressive testing has driven the large increase in cases. Three weeks ago, on April 9th, there were just 58 confirmed cases in the county. That was before a large spike in cases was detected at three area meat packing plants; JBS Packerland, American Foods Group, and Salm Partners in Denmark. 348 cases in the county were linked to JBS alone. That plant has since temporarily shut down.
142 people have recovered and 40 have been hospitalized. Three people have died. Eight of the confirmed cases are in the Oneida Nation.
