GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Millions continue to file for unemployment, but what about the people too young to collect benefits?
Area employers say they’re still hiring in advance of the state reopening.
That certainly is the case for Bay Beach Amusement Park, which offers over 100 seasonal jobs every summer.
“We’re still hiring,” said Britney Burkart-Labar. “We’d love to have more staff members out here.”
Even though those staff members can’t work right now.
Burkart-Labar is the special facilities manager at Bay Beach. She takes care of all the hiring.
But Governor Tony Evers’ plan to reopen the state means amusement parks are among the last to open.
Burkart-Labar tells FOX 11 she is hiring now to be ready.
“We’re kind of following the Governor’s order and state health departments, so as soon as we get the okay we’re ready to open. It’s just a matter of maybe taking a week to get staff ready. Even probably two days we could get ready and open, they’re so willing to work.”
As for those who need a paycheck now-
“The grocery stores continue to hire despite the coronavirus,” said Jim Golembeski.
He is the executive director of the Bay Area Workforce Development Board, and tells FOX 11 there are still plenty of summer jobs open.
“Construction is another area that traditionally hires young people during the summer and construction has not very much slowed down at all.”
Golembeski says you just have to know where to look.
