GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Parents of students at Elmore Elementary School are showing support for teachers during the “Safer at Home” order.
The second week of May is “Teacher Appreciation Week” at the school.
The school’s Family Support Organization, which acts as a liaison between parents and teachers, rented out yard signs that were placed in front of the school.
Parents arranged them so they spelled out “We Love And Miss Our Staff.”
“It makes me feel great, and I hope that there’s many, many teachers from Elmore that have a chance to come and see it, that hear about it, that are able to drive by and know how much we do appreciate them,” said Michelle Little, a parent and treasurer of the school Family Support Organization.
“Teacher Appreciation Day” is also coming up. Normally, the organization would be celebrating it differently.
“We’ve always provided lunch for the staff on ‘Teacher Appreciation Day,’ which is Tuesday,” says Brook Van Ess, the organization’s co-president.
But the “Safer at Home” order forced schools to close for in-person classes.
That means the organization needed to find another way to show staff and teacher support.
“Unfortunately, with the way times are right now, with COVID-19, we were trying to find other ways of supporting the staff, so we decided to go with yard cards to show our appreciation and give our thanks for everything that they do for us,” Van Ess added.
The organization reached out to a Green Bay business that does yard decorations to make the display.
