MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) –Holy Family College is shutting down at the end of the summer.
The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Sponsored Ministries announced the decision on Monday. Leaders cited enrollment and fundraising challenges.
“Everyone at the College has been working hard to achieve enrollment growth and increased fundraising, especially College President Dr. Robert Callahan. Under his leadership, good progress was made in addressing several years of earlier negative fiscal performance, and overall, he did a great job. However, the tough challenges were made even tougher with the COVID-19 outbreak, and we collectively made this difficult decision,” Sister Natalie Binversie, Community Director of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity in Manitowoc, said in a news release.
The college, formerly known as Silver Lake College, says it will lay off employees on June 13 and 30, and eliminate any remaining jobs on Aug. 29.
A limited number of already scheduled summer term classes will be offered to allow students to complete their degree requirements.
The college plans to help continuing students transfer to other colleges.
Holy Family College was founded in 1935. As of fall 2016, enrollment was 357 undergraduate and 72 graduate students.
