GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The idea of using Lambeau Field for area high school graduation ceremonies was discussed but rejected due to work being done in the stadium’s concourse.
In a letter to families in the Green Bay Area Public School District Thursday, it says the district is still working on plans for graduation.
The district had promised an announcement this week, but said that will be delayed because of a meeting Friday afternoon “where further guidance from the state will be provided to school districts regarding graduation ceremonies.”
The district statement goes on to say:
“The District is committed to doing its very best to develop plans that will honor our graduating seniors during these unprecedented times. We have been exploring a variety of options, including whether or not a graduation ceremony could be held at Lambeau Field, where the size of the stadium would allow for social distancing. However, the Green Bay Packers have shared that unfortunately this summer there will be renovations occurring both inside and outside the stadium.”
The Packers say the work the district referenced is primarily in the concourse, remodeling several concession stands and improving the stadium’s wi-fi. Various parts of the concourse are already “torn apart” and the work won’t be completed until just before Family Night.
Meanwhile, the school district continues to work on graduation plans.
