GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Leaders gathered Thursday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony that marked the completion of a major infrastructure investment in Green Bay.
Country Club Road serves as a critical connection between residential areas and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC), one of the city’s largest educational institutions.
“This has been a rough road for a while here in Green Bay. We’ve certainly heard that from our residents. Just thrilled that we were able to pull this project together,” said Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich.
A comprehensive reconstruction project transformed the road by:
- Completely replacing the pavement, creating a smoother surface for the thousands of drivers who use the corridor each day.
- Making significant drainage improvements to reduce flooding and water pooling, which has long been a concern for local residents and commuters.
- Enhancing pedestrian facilities to provide safer access for students walking to and from the NWTC campus, as well as residents traveling to nearby parks, businesses and neighborhoods.
- Adding new sidewalks, improved crosswalks and modern LED streetlights to create a more walkable environment while improving visibility and reducing energy costs.
- Addressing aging underground infrastructure, with utility upgrades ensuring reliable service for years to come.
- Adding landscaping to enhance the corridor’s appearance and contribute to stormwater management.
Officials believe these improvements will directly benefit NWTC’s students, faculty and staff, as well as nearby residents, businesses and the Green Bay community.
“For someone who has driven down this road for 23 years, I almost feel like a resident, and I never knew how much I took this road for granted, so I’m very excited. It looks beautiful,” said John Grant, associate vice president of student affairs at NWTC. “This project helps make traveling in our neighborhood easier and safer.”
