APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A new COVID-19 testing site in Appleton saw a lot of traffic on it’s opening day.
The drive-up testing site at Fox Valley Tech is open for any symptomatic individuals in the Outagamie, Calumet, and Winnebago County area.
“We’re going to have close to 900 tests conducted today,” says Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson, “It is focused on the tri-county area of Outagamie, Winnebago, Calumet – but if you’re coming in from elsewhere, we will not turn you away.”
The lines were so long, however – that County Health Officer Mary Dorn says they don’t quite have the capacity to test everyone like Brown County can.
“We could evaluate that, but at this point we are having long enough lines that we wouldn’t have the capacity to meet asymptomatic patients at this point,” Dorn says, “It tells us that we have enough symptomatic individuals in our community that need testing that our testing facility was needed in the community to meet the needs of those individuals who have symptoms.”
The National Guard is preparing to send another team to the site to assist with the high demand for testing.
