APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A man has been charged in connection with an Appleton stalking case.
On Tuesday, police arrested Matthew Huebschman, 30, of Appleton. Online court records show he made an initial appearance in court Wednesday on one felony count of stalking.
According to authorities, Huebschman engaged in “a yearlong pattern of disturbing and intrusive behavior” using Grindr, an online dating and chat service that describes itself as “the world’s largest social networking app for gay, bi, trans and queer people.”
Police say Huebschman posed as the victim on Grindr and arranged meetings between the victim and unknown men. Huebschman allegedly instructed the men to go to the victim’s home and enter the residence upon arrival.
“Over the course of more than a year, numerous men arrived at the victim’s residence under these false pretenses. This sustained harassment created a persistent sense of fear and distress for the victim and their household,” police stated in a news release. “The suspect reportedly positioned himself nearby to watch the men arrive.”
Huebschman returns to court Nov. 7 for a preliminary hearing.
The Appleton Police Department said it takes all reports of stalking and harassment seriously and encourages anyone experiencing similar behavior to report it to law enforcement immediately. Anyone with information related to Huebschman’s case should contact Investigator Rosetti at the Appleton Police Department at (920) 832-5574.
