OCONTO, WI (WTAQ) – Graduating seniors in the City of Oconto are being recognized in a different way this year. More than thirty banners featuring the seniors are hanging from light posts around town.
“We have thirty one banners, they’re back to back – so the sixty two seniors that are on those banners,” says Public Works Superintendent Jeremy Wusterbarth, “We’re gonna keep them up through July. They’re looking at a mid-to-late July for a graduation ceremony. So we’re to keep them up through that.”
The school district, along with some parents, reached out to the city about doing something to honor the graduating seniors – who weren’t able to finish out their senior year in a regular fashion.
“Moreso a our token of their expression for the kids basically not being able to finish up their school year, having a late graduation, and kind of just showing some expression for those seniors that didn’t get to finish their year,” Wusterbarth says.
