STURGEON BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — As of Friday night Door County’s Safer at Home order still stands, even if other counties has rescinded theirs.
But just because stores are allowed to reopen after the county’s safer at home order expires, doesn’t mean everyone is quick to open their doors.
“We’re going to open when we feel it’s safe for our employees and our customers,” said Mark Schuster. He and Julie Wilson own Bay Shore Outfitters in Sturgeon Bay.
The two aren’t sure what to expect for traffic as Memorial Day weekend approaches, but say visitors can expect to see a new normal.
“It’s mandatory that you wear a mask when you come into our store, we’re going to have hand sanitizer stations when you come in, we’ve got foggers we can use to disinfect the area,” Schuster listed.
As for Kenny Albert, a manager at Sonny’s Pizzeria, he says he’s ready for the holiday weekend crowds.
“We’re adding so much extra things to the process with sanitizing the tables extra and the different menus that we have, the disposable ones,” he said.
Those measures are part of a county wide effort between tourism and health officials, called the Door County Cleanliness and Safety initiative,
It includes face shielding using Plexiglas or other barriers will be used whenever possible, for taverns, less seating around the bar and making hand sanitizer available.
Still, Albert says it is up to travelers to decide whether it’s safe to stop for a slice.
“If somebody’s uncomfortable coming into the restaurant and dining with us we have the curbside pickup,” he said. “It’s no different than if you didn’t feel comfortable going somewhere, nobody is forcing you to.”
Until then, both businesses are taking extra measures, like more cleaning and sanitation.
