(WTAQ) – Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin will be hosting mobile drive-thru food pantries throughout Northeast Wisconsin until the end of June.
Feeding America is partnering with the USDA and Valley Bakers to distribute truckloads of food to local communities over the next several weeks.
“Anybody can come. There is no proof of income, you don’t have to show us or tell us anything. You just drive up – it’s all good-will type of distributions,” Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin Donor Relations Manager Liz Wollenberg says, “You may have had a job 3 months ago making a decent amount of money and now you haven’t gotten a paycheck in 2 months and you still need to feed your family.”
Wollenberg says it’s simply too difficult – especially during these times – to explain or prove situations regarding loss of income or jobs.
“Instead of jumping through all those hoops – that takes a lot of time and effort – and people who are in crisis don’t have the time to do that. They’re just looking for a way to feed their families and get food on their tables,” Wollenberg says, “This is our way to make sure that everyone who needs it has access to it.”
There will be two trucks with a total of approximately 2,000 boxes of food combined at each site, each day. Some people may still be concerned over contact with the workers, but that piece has been planned out as well.
“It’s a no contact delivery. You literally hold up your hand and tell us how many boxes you want and we put them in your trunk and you drive away,” Wollenberg tells WTAQ News.
