OCONTO COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The two sheriff’s deputies and man involved in a fatal shooting over the weekend in Oconto County have been identified.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation says on Sunday night, Oconto County sheriff’s deputies went to a home where a man with felony warrants was reported to be. The depuities got permission to search the home and found that the man, 26-year-old Jacob Bubb of Suring, had a gun. Two deputies fired at Bubb, killing him.
The deputies were identified as Kevin Christensen, who has been with the department for more than three years, and Sgt. Ben Schindel, who has been with the department for more than four years. Both have been placed on administrative leave per department policy.
No one else was injured in the incident.
The Wisconsin State Crime Lab and Wisconsin State Patrol are helping DCI with the investigation. State law requires an outside agency investigate anytime a law enforcement officer uses deadly force.
The Oconto County District Attorney’s Office will make a final decision on whether criminal charges will be filed in the case.
