GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Green Bay Police Department partnered with local hospitals Saturday to participate in Drug Take Back Day, a national movement that encourages community members to properly dispose of medications.
“We take back expired, unused medications that people don’t need anymore. We want to keep it out of our landfills, our water system, and most importantly, out of hands they don’t belong in,” says Kellie Carlson, a local nurse helping with Drug Take Back Day.
The police department partnered with Emplify Health by Bellin, HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center, and Aurora BayCare Medical Center, creating three drop-off locations for people to bring in any kind of expired/unused prescriptions, vitamins, pet medications, or any liquid medications.
Green Bay Police say in total, they collected 275 pounds of medications between the three drop off locations. Those medications are then taken out of state and incinerated.
Green Bay Police also have a year-round medication drop box in their lobby, available Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
