SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Shawano Lake will once again be allowed to have higher water levels this summer.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued an order Wednesday that allows the Shawano Paper Mill Dam on the Wolf River to maintain a level of 802.9 feet, about five inches higher than its winter level. The order expires Nov. 15.
Similar orders have been issued in recent years. The water was lowered as a result of a 2015 complaint about flooding in the area. However, property owners around the lake have complained about the low levels and their potential to cause property damage and lead to unsafe boating conditions.
Dam operators continue to seek a permanent solution to maintain higher water levels on Shawano Lake.
