GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Green Bay Area Public School District is expected to share investigation findings on Monday with the East High varsity football coach who was put on paid administrative leave last week.
Niko Sila, who is also the school’s manager of engagement, attendance and advocacy, was put on leave Thursday October 16th.
A letter to Sila from Green Bay Area Public School District Legal Counsel Melissa Thiel Collar states the meeting “will provide an opportunity to share the outcome of the investigation and discuss any next steps. At this meeting you will be given the opportunity to refute management’s findings and to introduce additional information, facts, or evidence not yet presented to management for consideration in making a final decision regarding violations of Board Policies and/or Employee Handbook.”
State law prohibits the school district from sharing allegations it received about Sila.
Malik Lynch, a representative for Sila who was in the meeting when he was put on leave, has said the district received a list of about 20 allegations against the coach.
Some of the allegations, according to Lynch, include Sila telling students they don’t have to respect teachers, saying administrators don’t know how to work with kids, he’s made students buy him food and he’s made players do push-ups for cursing.
Chelci Sila has said her husband denies some of the allegations and says the rest are being taken out of context.
Despite the lack of confirmation on the allegations against Sila, student and parent supporters have held protests and gathered signatures for an online petition demanding he be reinstated and for the school district to provide transparency on the situation.
Sila has been a district employee since 2018 and has been the head varsity football coach at East the past three seasons.
