GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The downtown Green Bay Farmer’s Market will return this weekend with a few changes in place.
“We are super excited to be kicking off this Saturday. We will be downtown starting at 7:00 AM bright and early,” says Kathryn Kroll of Downtown Green Bay Incorporated, “We are sticking to just those essential vendors. So unfortunately food that would be consumed on site, like kettle corn or some of our eggroll vendors, those items will not be at the market at least in the beginning.”
But Kroll is holding out hope that direction from local and state health deparments will eventually allow other vendors and activities to return to the market this year.
The Farmer’s Market will be held in parking lots along the 200 block of Washington Street, rather than on the street this year. They’re also implementing new health precautions to ensure safety of market vendors, staff, and attendees.
There will be a market capacity of 300 people, not including vendors or staff – and they will be monitoring the entrance points to keep a count of how many people are in the market. Some people may have to wait in line to get in.
“It actually opens up more parking for people that want to attend the market. It is a Saturday that means free street parking,” Kroll tells WTAQ News, “We will be utilizing the sidewalk on Washington Street. We will have signs, but we’re encouraging people to kind of look down at the sidewalk – every other sidewalk box is kind of how we’re going to be encouraging people to queue.”
Another safety and efficiency method being used is the implementation of a map, showing where specific vendors will be located within the market.
“You can see where your favorite vendors will be located. You’ll be able to get into the market, go straight to your favorite vendors or a vendor that you’re looking for, and then the head back home,” Kroll says.
