GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — “Wanted” signs were posted all over downtown Green Bay late Wednesday night.
They feature Jennifer Grant and Melinda Eck, members of city council.
According to Eck, city police removed the signs right away.
“I was just surprised that someone would go to those lengths to put out a couple hundred of those downtown Green Bay and to have it near the police station,” said Melinda Eck, District 11 Alderperson.
“When people kind of, I think, forget that when you put a flyer out about someone, it doesn’t just impact them. It impacts their family. We have jobs. We have involvement within the community. And it does affect people around us,” said Jennifer Grant, District 1 Alderperson.
On the posters, it says the two are “wanted” for things like discrimination of the LGBTQ+ community and for being supportive of child endangering conversion therapy.
“I voted against the resolution to ban conversion therapy. So, I’m assuming that that was what the other statement was made about,” said Eck. “I voted biblically. But I would never vote to take away a parent’s right to be able to take their child to get counseling.”
The two say the rhetoric on the posters can be dangerous.
“The fact that it says wanted on the top makes it a little more, I guess you could say, threatening maybe. I think kind of maybe their intentions were to draw people in and rile them up against me. I mean, it seems like that would be the intention there,” said Eck.
“If you were just doing this as your first amendment right to put your opinion out there, why are you hiding your face then,” said Grant.
Officials say they found about 16 signs.
A suspect has not yet been identified, but they could face a $100 citation.
