GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Plea discussions and pre-trial preparation both continue for Tonia Piontek, who allegedly fatally stabbed her fiancé.
Piontek, 46, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide for the April 13, 2025, incident at the couple’s Smith Street home in Green Bay.
Defense attorney Bradley Schraven said he needs to discuss a plea offer with his client. At the same time, the defense’s expert on domestic violence is still working on a report.
Judge Marc Hammer set another hearing for Aug. 17.
No trial date has been set.
According to the criminal complaint, Piontek called 911 around 10 p.m. to report she had stabbed the man. An account of the call shows that she told the dispatcher they had both been drinking.
The complaint quotes Piontek as telling the dispatcher: ” …we’ve been fighting, he came at me and.. I often keep a knife nearby to protect myself and he’s just got ya know (inaudible), I didn’t know what else to do, he’s a lot bigger than me.”
A neighbor told police the two had been arguing for about an hour and a half.
Piontek said she used a “pastry chef knife” to stab the man. Autopsy results showed the victim was stabbed in the chest with a knife that had a 7.87-inch blade.
The victim was not identified in the complaint. Green Bay police said he was 41 years old.
