(WTAQ-WLUK) — Whether you’re traveling over a lift bridge by car or hoping to pass under it in a boat, you can check a new webpage that provides information on planned closures.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is now providing information on the 12 lift bridges, or drawbridges, the state owns. 11 of those bridges are in Northeast Wisconsin: Oshkosh, Sturgeon Bay and Green Bay.
The page includes weekly updates with state lift bridge maintenance locations, a page explaining lift bridge operations with an option to sign up for alerts and a page that provides broader information on bridge inspections.
“These new resources reflect WisDOT’s commitment to transparency and safety,” Jason Lahm, DOT Bureau of Structures supervisor, said in a news release. “By providing detailed information about our lift bridges and maintenance schedules in one convenient location, we help both motorists and mariners plan their trips and better understand the critical work needed to keep these vital structures operating reliably for decades to come.”
The U.S. Coast Guard also provides similar information on lift bridge closures in Wisconsin.
