GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The city of Green Bay inadvertently sent 152 voters two ballots for next Tuesday’s election, according to city clerk Celestine Jeffreys.
Jeffreys said absentee ballots were being sent out around the same time as major blizzards mid-March came through the area.
Jeffreys said mailing labels were printed twice and ballots were sent before the clerk’s office noticed the mistake.
“We sent letters to them already saying that if you’ve gotten two ballots, don’t vote them both. Only vote one and destroy the other one at your home. We did get some phone calls, which is how we found out that we did that,” Jeffreys said.
To ensure votes don’t get counted twice, Jeffreys said election officials do a daily audit of the return ballots, followed by a specific ballot for ballot file audit.
Jeffreys admitted moving forward, the clerk’s office needs to double check the labels before being mailed.
