GRAND CHUTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Construction is set to begin April 1 along Wisconsin Avenue in Grand Chute.
This will happen near the I-41 project, which continues with lane closures throughout the Fox Valley.
Drivers say they’re struggling with the current road conditions.
“It’s pretty rough. I’ve been driving this road, I don’t know, 10+ years. And it’s the same thing every year,” said Jon Fogelson.
Tim Rosio said the current construction is already restricting driving.
“The 41 project that’s going on, we’ve had congestion right at the on-ramp and off-ramp right here. That basically congests everything right in front of the Kwik Trip,” he said. “And then obviously, access on that road, let alone the potholes that are basically from that intersection to the railroad.”
The new resurfacing project is set to correct some of those lingering issues, according to project manager Jesse Hansen.
“The last resurface, I believe was done in 2008, off the top of my head. It’s getting to the end of its life there, and we need to do some repairs to extend the pavement,” he said.
The project is estimated to cost nearly $7.4 million dollars. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers signed the contract Friday.
The project is planned from Casaloma Drive to North Badger Avenue. It includes work on the railroad crossing and the addition of turn lanes at Bluemound Drive. These changes will come with staggered road closures during off-peak hours, from 6 p.m. to 11 a.m.
With the work lasting months, Hansen said it’s important to stay aware of the workers on the road.
“Drivers should expect the unexpected as they’re going through the work zone, so stay alert at all times, be cautious, keep the speeds down,” he said.
Rosio says he’s not looking forward to the increased closures.
“I think that’s greatly going to impact travel, and it’s going to force congestion, even if it’s going to be from spring to fall,” he said.
Work on the project is expected to last until November.
