GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — More information continues to come through about a charter bus that crashed Sunday while exiting I-43 in Green Bay, sending more than 30 people to the hospital.
“Seeing it, it was kind of crazy. It was like seeing a plane crash,” said Scott Miller.
He was driving his truck route when his dashcam captured the moment the tour bus exited the ramp from northbound I-43, drove over an embankment and nearly crashed into a warehouse.
According to the Green Bay Police Department, the bus was coming from Chicago and heading to a casino in Michigan. Of the 54 total passengers, 33 were injured — two of which were said to be in critical condition after the crash.
After witnessing the crash, Miller said he got out of his truck immediately to see if he could help those who were injured.
“You know, you can’t drive past something like that. If you’re needed, you’re needed,” he said. “I just assisted getting passengers kind of out of the way, so ambulances can do their things. I got a lot of old lady hugs, and I can admit, those are pretty nice. They were very appreciative.”
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department ran out of EMS vehicles during their response. Luxemburg and De Pere first responders helped transport patients to four area hospitals.
Ghebry Figueroa was arrested Sunday night in connection with the crash. He was booked on one count of operating while revoked – causing great bodily harm.
