Greater Fox Cities Habitat for Humanity kicks off Rock the Block 2018 in Little Chute. PC: Fox 11 Online
FOX VALLEY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Grant funds will allow the Greater Fox Cities Habitat for Humanity to help more homeowners in need.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development announced Thursday it has awarded a housing preservation grant to Habitat. The money will be used to assist very low-income residents complete essential health and safety updates to their homes.
“USDA Rural Development is committed to ensuring safe, affordable housing for rural Wisconsinites,” said Wisconsin State Director Andrew Iverson in a news release. “Every Wisconsinite deserves a safe place to call home. This investment makes it more affordable for families, seniors and individuals with disabilities to remain in their homes with the accessibility and security that is needed so they can live independently.”
The Greater Fox Cities Habitat for Humanity will receive $110,613 to help 14 very low-income homeowners in Calumet, Outagamie and Waupaca counties.
Housing repairs or rehabilitation projects can include:
- Insulation and combination storm windows and doors
- Repair or replacement of the roof
- Replacement of severely deteriorated siding, porches or stoops
- Installation or extension of plumbing, mechanical or electrical systems of existing units
- Alterations of the unit interior or exterior to provide greater accessibility for any handicapped family member
