(WTAQ-WLUK) — A number of people in Northeast Wisconsin are reporting potential scams while looking for people to plow snow for them after the recent winter storms.
After a large snowfall, you often see your social media feed flooded with people offering to remove your snow. Some can be trusted, while others may be just looking to take your money without even showing up.
If you’re hiring a snow removal service, the Better Business Bureau has some tips.
- Split the payments
- If you’re expected to pay all fees upfront, consider it a red flag
- Ask for references
- See if they are insured and licensed
- Even if a business appears to be reliable, it does not mean it is
When a company is reluctant to answer questions, won’t supply proper information or is unwilling to offer references, that could be cause for concern.
Most legitimate companies will have contracts. If you’re unsure, you can check the BBB scam tracker.
